Cortona – Arezzo: Franciscan Hermitage “Le Celle”

About 5 Km away from Cortona (AR), on the slopes of mount S. Egidio, this stone-carved Hermitage surrounded by woods was the very first built by the will of Saint Francis of Assisi (1221). As history went on, it was abandoned until 1537, when the bishop of Arezzo gave it to the Capuchins, who in turn made it a training place for their novices. Since 1992 it is a house of prayer for the spiritual comfort of the locals and of the Order. It presently accommodates a brotherhood of friars, who carry on the experience of faith inherited from the Saint. I hope you’ll have the pleasure of discovering in person the Hermitage with its surrounding area, and of sharing your emotions with other readers of this website!
